my inspiration An eclectic mix: a diverse cultural upbringing. Modern life - the food we eat, the politics we consume, advertising; living in a cave in Spain. I paint as a subconscious alchemist; I mix paint, chemicals and dyes. I apply these with sponges to canvases laid on the floor. I have had Japanese calligraphy painting tuition, I have been on African bush adventures, which feed into the layered approach. I always start painting with a colour. My process involves layers of colour, sometimes completely covering entire previous work, though I believe these layers still shine through, adding their own substance, as in a subtext in a play or a novel. I channel without conscious thought... experimenting with paint using various chemical mixtures (think mad scientist or seance medium) and lacquering tables cooking and cleaning - new mixtures (knee pads - rubber gloves - industrial) In order to make a depth
with a life that exists above the immediate visual impact, avoiding
wallpaper. Deep dark subconscious stuff that can be palatable enough to resonate.
